I-57 starts a few miles east of Oak Lawn, so the north end from the Dan Ryan split down past 111th, 119th and 127th Street to the I-294 junction is the quickest stretch for us. We run the corridor south through the I-80 junction to Park Forest, and the towns along it: Blue Island, Posen, Robbins, Midlothian, Markham, Harvey, Hazel Crest, Country Club Hills, Homewood, Flossmoor, Matteson and Richton Park.

Get fully onto the right shoulder, hazards on, seatbelt on, and stay in the car unless you can get well beyond the guardrail. The driver arrives with lights on and sets cones before working on the traffic side.

A lot of our I-57 calls come after dark: a flat near 111th, a dead battery at the Metra lot, a car in the ditch near the I-80 junction in a snow squall. The rate is the same at night and the truck runs 24 hours, so the call is the same one you would make at noon.

That is a winch-out. The truck hooks to the factory recovery point and pulls the car straight back to the pavement, then looks underneath. A tow only if it needs one.
