On this road
What dispatch would tell you on the phone.Where we run
The Stevenson is the road between our Oak Lawn location and the city, so the stretch from Cicero Avenue and Central Avenue past Harlem, LaGrange Road and the I-294 junction is home ground. We run the whole corridor from Chinatown to Bolingbrook, plus the towns along it: Bedford Park, Summit, Bridgeview, Burbank, Countryside, Hodgkins, McCook, Willow Springs, Burr Ridge and Darien.
On the shoulder
The Stevenson has narrow shoulders and heavy truck traffic. Get fully right, hazards on, and stay belted in the car unless you can get behind the barrier. The driver stops behind you with lights on and cones out before anyone gets out of the cab.
Minutemen and the state police
IDOT's Emergency Traffic Patrol, the Minutemen, and the state police will move a car off the live lanes but will not take you home or to a shop. If they have already moved you, tell dispatch where they left you and we pick you up there.
What it costs
A tow off the Stevenson inside the local ring is the flat rate: hook-up and the first 10 miles for one number, quoted on the phone, the same at night. Tire change, jump start or fuel is the roadside service call. Beyond the ring it is per mile and told upfront.
Tell dispatch
- 01Which interstate and which direction you are heading
- 02The last exit you passed, or the next one you can see
- 03Which shoulder you are on and whether the car is fully off the lane
- 04What the car is doing: flat, dead, overheating, crashed
- 05How many people are with you and whether anyone is hurt
Asked a lot
Anything else, call and ask.01How fast can you reach the Stevenson?
The stretch from Cicero Avenue to the I-294 junction is a few minutes from Oak Lawn and inside our 25-minute average. Farther out toward Bolingbrook you get an honest ETA on the call.
02Can you tow me into the city or only the suburbs?
Both. Chicago's South and Southwest Side neighborhoods are in the service area, and a drop anywhere in the city or suburbs is quoted before the truck rolls.
03I broke down near Midway with a flight to catch.
Tell dispatch. We can drop the car at a shop or your home and get you to the terminal in the cab if it is on the way.
04My work van died on I-55 with a load in it.
Vans and box trucks up to 26,000 lbs GVWR go on the medium-duty truck with the load left in place. Fleet accounts get one invoice.
