Two gallons of regular gasoline or diesel, which is enough to reach a pump without straining a fuel pump that has been running dry. If the wrong fuel went in at the station, do not turn the key: starting it is what does the damage. We tow you to a shop that can drain the tank.
If it still will not start
A tank run dry can also flatten the battery after a few cranks. The driver carries a jump pack and tries that first. If it is more than fuel and a battery, the tow to your shop is the price of the service call.
Diesel in the cold
Diesel that has gelled in a Chicago cold snap will not be fixed by two more gallons. That is a tow to a shop with a heated bay, and dispatch will tell you so on the phone rather than send a fuel run that cannot help.
